Obtained the download from the Maplin site which worked. I also downloaded the manual due the lack of instructions. I then tested the operation of the device.

The first trick was to get the LED brightness right so there was enough light to see by and not so much as to to white-out the image. The next problem is judging what you see. There isn't a way to judge distance so what might appear to be a rough surface might only be slightly textured.
It is necessary to try and keep the end of the scope as steady as possible as the autofocus struggles if there is movement. Was very useful to find source of a leaking pipe under the floor. However it is only a 300k image size which is a lot less than mobile phone cameras and the led illumination is flawed by reflecting back from the glass end cap, difficult to get any decent illumination without flaring.
I found it was easier to use a torch but that may not always be possible. Basic and handy especially when discounted. Rated 4 out of 5 by Donald5682 from Driver: FYI, as far as I can see, the driver on the CD is the same version as in the Maplin download.
If you have a slot-loading CD drive, then obviously use the Maplin download. Snapshot: the Maplin downloaded manual says when you press the snapshot button, a program 'Snapshot Reader' opens - it didn't on mine until I manually opened the snapshot reader program, and then when I pressed the snapshot button, the reader opened (provided Preview was on, otherwise AMcap opened in multiple windows). Just going to re-boot to see what happens after that, but will lose this post unless I post it!
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tim8910 from It's actually better than I expected - and it's easier than trying to wiggle a phone into a confined area and take a picture (which is what I have often ended up doing - over and over until I could work out what was what). It seems quite well built (time will tell if it holds up) - and it comes in a nice carry/storage case. My one quibble - it doesn't work on a Mac, so I dug out an old XP laptop and when installing the drivers you get a warning that they aren't officially supported by Microsoft and shouldn't be installed (risk of destabilising your system). This certainly isn't ideal - but I suspect it costs money for official accreditation.
As my XP laptop is old - I went ahead and it did work (although I had to reboot for a second installation to occur - when windows recognized a new device and then found the drivers I had installed prior to reboot). If you can get it on sale - definitely worth a purchase.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Paul3368 from I bought this on while on offer to throw in my tool box but wanted to use my netbook which runs an AMD quad with windows 8.1. I couldn't find a download so copied the driver disc to a stick on the desktop, installed it into documents on the netbook, double clicked, it installed no problem, plugged the camera in and hey presto it runs and captures perfectly, (You have to tell the computer it's a telescope from the software) A steady hand is required but the light when adjusted makes it easily capable of reading small print. I am extremely impressed, easy to set up and works great!
